The U.S. Department of Justice has urged a federal judge to require Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao to remain in the continental United States before his sentencing hearing on February 23, 2024. Zhao pleaded guilty on Tuesday to violating U.S. laws to prevent money laundering. The DOJ’s request comes after Zhao’s lawyers said he could return to his residence in the United Arab Emirates after Monday evening. However, a DOJ spokesperson previously stated that Zhao was expected to stay in the Seattle area until Monday evening. The judge has not yet made a decision on the DOJ’s request.
