In a recent court filing, prosecutors have praised Nishad Singh, a former FTX executive, for his important help in the investigation of the cryptocurrency exchange’s collapse. They noted his genuine remorse and willingness to cooperate with authorities. Even though he pleaded guilty to several charges, he could still face prison time, with his sentencing hearing coming up on October 30.
Key Contributions to the Investigation
Singh’s help has been crucial in revealing how FTX misused customer funds. He is the only witness who has shed light on the transactions by Sam Bankman-Fried that involved stolen money. Singh also uncovered a big campaign finance scheme involving Bankman-Fried and Ryan Salame, along with details about financial manipulation at FTX that might have stayed hidden without his input.
Nishad Singh on the Stand
Singh pleaded guilty to six criminal charges in February 2023, including fraud and conspiracy, and is awaiting sentencing later this month. His defence team has asked the court to consider his cooperation and limited role at FTX when deciding his sentence, calling him an “uncommonly selfless individual” motivated to help the investigation.
Singh is waiting for his sentence alongside former FTX CTO Gary Wang. In related cases, Sam Bankman-Fried received a 25-year prison sentence in March for fraud, while Caroline Ellison, the former CEO of Alameda Research, got two years last month. Ryan Salame, CEO of FTX Digital Markets, is serving a 7.5-year sentence for money transmission and election fraud.
All eyes are on this case now as this will be the perfect example for all future fraud cases.
